Introducing the Board
The Venture Capital Board aims
to encourage a new spirit of enterprise in South Australia, where
people will be inspired to create their own employment by starting
businesses or investing in other people's businesses.
Objectives:

Increase the supply of
private equity in South Australia, including regional South Australia

Provide access to
training and services to enable companies to become
investor-ready and to access capital for growth and development

Influence a culture of innovation and business development, and Facilitate commercialisation opportunities in South Australias educational and research institutions
The Venture Capital Board and its supporting office will focus on:

Providing a more
coordinated and improved approach to educating and training
South Australian businesses seeking private equity

Coordinating and
developing networking opportunities for investors seeking
investment opportunities in South Australia

Assisting South Australian businesses to present
their plans so as to improve their chances of attracting
investment
The establishment of the Board was a key recommendation of the Economic Development Board's
A Framework for Economic Development in South Australia, released in 2003.
The Venture Capital Board is not a
private equity fund. Therefore, it will not be acting as a direct
investor in businesses in South Australia.

Dr Roger Sexton
Chairman, Venture Capital Board
Roger Sexton was a founding
member and founding Chief Executive of the Economic
Development Board and prior to this appointment was Chief
Executive of Investment bank Challenger Beston Limited.
He is an economist and investment banker and has held
positions on a number of public and private companies in
Australia and overseas. |

Ms Fiona Roche
Managing Director, Estates Development Company and an Economic
Development Board member
Fiona Roche is Managing
Director of the Roche Group of companies, which operates as
the Adelaide Development Company and Estates Development
Company. |

Mr David Simmons
Managing Director, Hills Industries and
Chairman of the Economic Development Board
David Simmons is the Chief
Executive of Hills Industries, an Adelaide-based public
company with revenues in excess of $700 million and 2,500
employees. David's board appointments include chairing
roles with Korvest Ltd, Fielders Pty Ltd and Orrcon Ltd. |

Mr Su-Ming Wong
Managing Director, CHAMP Ventures
Su-Ming Wong has more than 20
years' experience in direct investment, international
corporate advisory and merchant banking. He is a
member of the Executive Committee of Castle Harlan
Australian Mezzanine Partners, was Executive Director of
Australian Mezzanine Investments Ltd from 1992 to 2000, and
is a director of several investee companies. |

Mr John Sanders
John Sanders is a former Chief
Executive Officer of APN News and Media, one of Australia's
largest companies with a market capitalisation of more than
$1.5 billion and employing more than 7,000 staff in
Australia, New Zealand, Hong King, Singapore, Indonesia and
the Philippines. |

Mr Gary Lines
Executive Director, Quentin Ayers
Gary Lines, Principal and
Co-founder of Quentin Ayers, advises major Australian
superannuation funds on a wide range of investment issues,
and has been a leader in the research and evaluation of
venture capital buy-outs, high-yield, mezzanine and other
alternative investment opportunities. |

Mr Jim Wright
Under Treasurer, Department of Treasury and Finance
Prior to joining the South
Australian Government in 1999, Jim held numerous senior
Commonwealth Government positions in economic and financial
fields, including internationally. These roles
included Senior Advisor to the Treasurer in the mid-1990s
and Head of the Industry Policy Division of the Department
of Industry, Science and Tourism. |
